At the end of 2008 I finally made the Souzou V.1 booklet through blurb.com and I recently just made the V.2 book. Since I’ve now published two books through blurb, I thought I’d add a few words about the process of making your own photo book. January has just been crazy, with new year parties, drinking sessions, Rickie-G photos, Souzou V.2 Exhibition, teaching, and to top it off, my wife’s in hospital resting so our little one doesn’t experience the world earlier than expected. So [...] The below photos are the portraits of the people who came to the Souzou V.2 Exhibition last Sat night. Strobist.com influenced, the Vivitar 285HV flash was positioned off camera to the right with a Lumiquest Softbox III and a bulb light for some ambiance as it was pretty dark in the club. I wanted a very [...] The combined body parts and light streaks were the four main A3 images, the other photos were printed much smaller and surround the larger photos. All taken with A Pentax K10D, Super Takumar 55mm with a Vivitar 285HV & Lumiquest Softbox III off camera. [...] Here are my four main A3 exhibited pieces for Souzou V.2. The series is called Neon Tattoo and explores the form of the body, flow and curvature, the manipulation of light and how they merge as one when combined. I was also interested in a kind of erotic perception, where innocent body parts and [...] In Dec 2007 a group of people from various countries (Australia, Japan, Canada, US, UK) who live in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima, Japan got together and made a group exhibition titled Souzou (meaning creative in Japanese). The show was held at Nagaya Gallery in Fukuyama which was run and owned by local video/installation artist Shinsuke [...] The Souzou V.1 booklet is finally finished, twelve months in the making, eleven of them procrastinating and one designing damn thing. It’s mainly for the people who exhibited as a keepsake but available for anyone who’s interested in photography, art or DIY exhibitions. [...] SOUZOU V.2 – International Art and Photo Exhibition opening night will be on Jan 17th 2009 from 8pm at Mondo Cafe, Fukuyama, Japan and will run until Fri Jan 30th. I am organizing and participating in the show (representing Australia) as well as five other people from Japan, Canada and the U.K. Initially, we [...] Souzou v.2′s theme this year is Contrasts so I’m trying to come up with some cool and interesting lighting setups, basically I want a black background, left side hair backlit, left side face in darkness, rightside hair in darkness and rightside face lit. Hopfully pretty simple stuff, but (I think), an interesting take on [...] Last year my friend Michelle and I organized a photography & art exhibition in Fukuyama, Japan called Souzou (creative in Japanese). We had ten people exhibiting work, had a few hundered people visit and we donated the proceeds (about $500 USD) to UNICEF World AIDS Day. This year, Souzou V.2 has a theme title [...] |
