At a local 2nd hand shop yesterday and found this guy in the back of the cabinet, a K mount Vivitar 100-300mm f/5 lens with close focus with original front and back caps and a Hoya 62mm skylight filter. Apart from a little dent (see below) on the extendable hood, it’s in great cosmetic and mechanical order so it was a good find but at 940 grams, it’s a little heavy and long for casual shooting but I’m sure I’ll find a use for it (anyone need a stalker?). After researching the lens and serial number, I found out it was made by Tokina and rebadged as a Vivitar (Serial # starts with 37) and was made in either 1977 or 1987 (third # in serial is 7).
I took a few shots and was a little hit and miss. It’s long, therefore hard to control and keep well balanced but I got a few clear shots but I can’t see it being too useful after f/8, even in daylight and even less in lower light situations.
